Byron Gray, CET
Operations Advisor
Byron Gray is currently an Operations Advisor for Advantage Energy Services Ltd. He is a NAIT graduate and Certified Engineering Technologist with over 40 years of upstream and midstream oil and gas expertise. Byron has extensive experience in process plants, field operations, artificial lift optimization, operations integrity, and safety management. This includes 18 years with a large multinational company and over 20 years of consulting to industry in Western Canada and internationally with Advantage Energy Services Ltd. (AESL)
When he joined AESL in 1996, Byron helped Gulf Canada resolve high operating cost (“opex”) issues at their remote Zama Lake (AB) field. With Byron directing technical and operational excellence initiatives in the field, a $10 million annualized opex reduction was achieved (as shown in the chart below). Based on the 5-times annual cashflow boost this provided to Gulf’s bottom-line, it was estimated that the divestment of Zama in the following year added $50 million to the proceeds of that transaction for our client.
Byron also delivered best-in-class results in Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) failure analysis where a doubling of run life from 3 to 6 years was achieved in the Swan Hills Miscible Flood Fields during his advisory tenure there.
On the Business Process side of the coin, Byron’s facilitation skills are second to none. His leadership on Opportunity Assessments, Production and Cost Optimization Processes, and Integrated Field Reviews (IFR) have brought him cross-organizational recognition and respect from the field offices to the executive suites and every stop between.
