Brian Smart

Mr. Smart has over 35 years of expertise is in the field of reservoir engineering, with particular focus on enhanced oil recovery implementation and surveillance, formation evaluation, regulatory applications, economics, reserves and portfolio management.

Brian received his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1982 from the University of Waterloo. In 1987 he received his P.Eng. designation from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and has been a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers since April, 1990. He is fluently bilingual in English and French.

The first 13 years of Brian’s career were spent in roles of increasing responsibility with Exxon Corporation affiliates in Alberta, the North-West Territories and France from 1982 through 1995. He then joined forces with Earl Hickok for the next eight years until 2003 at Advantage Energy Services Ltd in Calgary as Chief Engineer, providing consulting services to a wide range of clients primarily in North America and Asia-Pacific regions. In 2003, Mr Smart became Exploitation Manager at Argo Energy Ltd and took on his first executive role in 2005 as Vice-President, Exploitation at Sequoia Oil & Gas Trust after Argo’s merger with Lightning Oil & Gas. Since the sale of Sequoia to Daylight Energy in 2006, Brian has held the portfolio of Vice-President, Reservoir Engineering with Daylight (2006-7), TUSK Energy Corporation (2007-9), Marble Point Energy Ltd. and its successor Teine Energy Ltd. (2009-10). As President of AESL, Brian’s focus is on building an aggregation play for oil & gas assets in Western Canada with strategic partnerships.
